So You Think you can Drag?!
In my past life (just one year ago) I was part of the New York City night entertament industry. I worked in front (waiter), behind (bartender) and on top (go-go boy) of a bar for many years. I meet a lof of people from promoters to drag queens, and those conections come in handy now and then.
Last night Tim and I went to see a fun contest being held at New World Stages. “So you think you can Drag!”, 15 contestant fight for a prince of $100 and the opportunity to host their own drag show.
We arrived early and behind the bar I found Drew, a bartender friend who hook us up with the drinks. Once the show started, Justin Helms, one of the promoters came to greet me, chit chat, and move us to the VIP tables right in front of the stage, then Joshua McKinley, one of the judges for the night, and one of the finalist of the current season for “Project Runway 9” also kiss me and say hi (We went to FIT together). After the show, the hostest, and drag celebrity Paige Turner, also came to me and made me feel welcome. We did not stay long after as we were both exhausted; but being in first row, greeted by know, semi-famous people, and being treated like a VIP for the price of a commoner was a great experience.
